Position Summary: 

The Branch Manager provides strategic leadership in building a high performing, engaged  team who delivers service excellence, profitable sales growth, continuous improvement, market share increases and strong customer and community relationships. Reporting to the Director, Field Operations (Onsite), the Branch Manager is responsible for ensuring service levels are met through proactive assessment of customer activity by adjusting Onsite resources accordingly. The Branch Manager, Onsite Operations has responsibility for leading the onsite teams in executing the overall customer strategy across all of GCAN.  

 

Job Responsibilities (You Will): 

People Leadership  

  • Demonstrates, excels, and leads by examples to the Grainger Principles. 
  • Lead onsite teams in the implementation, monitoring, and measurement of core processes, safety, inventory accuracy, standard work, risk management and customer satisfaction. 
  • Lead onsite teams in their understanding, implementation, and execution of performance and operational excellence. 
  • Lead and manage a high performing team, including recruiting, hiring, on boarding, training, motivating, recognizing, and managing performance. 
  • Provide constructive feedback to onsite leaders and coach/support them to adequately manage their onsite teams. Holds leaders accountable to managing to performance and expectations. 
  • Translates leadership and strategic direction for team members 
  • Communicates and executes a sound business strategy to team members that embraces change management. 
  • Makes sound, fact-based business decisions to support the needs and objectives of customer sales / service 

Operational Excellence 

  • Lead and manage the day-to-day branch business through the key metrics on the branch key indicator dashboard. 
  • Work closely with the Senior District Manager, Onsite Ops to drive profitable branch growth and increase market share 
  • Develop and lead a customer driven sales and service culture in the branch. 
  • Develop and maintain a well-rounded knowledge of products sold 
  • Liaise with internal support groups, such as National Accounts, Marketing, Sales Operations, Supply Chain, Financial Services, Human Resources and Product Management 
  • Communicate and execute against Grainger determined KPI’s for Suncor partnership 
  • Build and foster strong community relationships with both internal and external partners. 
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives with team and customer to drive efficiencies for Grainger Canada and the customer while working to improve profitability 
  • Manage inventory control, facility maintenance, security and distribution of goods 
  • Optimize local branch inventory to improve product availability and deliver targeted first pass fill rate 
  • Analyze  daily reports to uncover deviations and compliance and ensure requisite improvement plans are developed and executed as needed 
  • Lead Onsite teams in the development of flawless customer experience 
  • Lead Onsite teams to flawlessly execute and sustain deployment of standard work 
  • Builds and fosters a strong continuous improvement culture within the Team by challenging the status quo, making problems visible and promoting tools/ methodologies to identify and reduce waste to build standardization and operational excellence within the region 
  • Ensure safety policies, procedures are followed, such as, WHMIS, Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act, WSIB, and all related governing legislation 
  • Ensure compliance of workforce with provincial regulations, codes and approved Grainger operating practices 

Talent Management  

  • Responsible for recruitment, development, mentorship, coaching, and retaining a diverse team 
  • Works with Human Resources and SDM to identify annual performance goals and objectives and effectively evaluate and hold team members accountable to these 
  • Creates an environment where team members are engaged, empowered, enthusiastic, and committed to the success of the company. 
  • Build an inclusive environment and help develop future leaders within Grainger Canada through performance excellence and succession planning 

 

Education/Experience (You Have): 

  • Post-Secondary Education Preferred; however, a combination of post-secondary education and experience 5+ years of equivalent experience that meets the role requirements will be considered. 
  • Demonstrates the ability to implement initiatives, manages projects and demonstrates change leadership 
  • General business and financial acumen including experience in being accountable for P&L results. Capable of understanding financial and economic concepts 
  • Continuous Improvement mindset and the ability to teach process control 
  • Ability to coach, lead, motivate, develop leaders and high-performing teams and inspire results through others 
  • Possesses effective time-management skills and a sense of urgency. 
  • Demonstrates the ability to lead initiatives, manage projects and execute change leadership 
  • Comfortable in operating in a matrix environment 
  • Must have excellent presentation skills, strong customer focus 
  • Strong communication and influencing skills; capable of speaking in an effective and influential manner to team members, senior leadership, and customers 
  • Able to demonstrate situational leadership and lead others not directly under his or her control. 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage virtual teams, leveraging necessary technology 

Work Environment:  

  • Schedule: Rotational 8 hour +/- shifts as determined by needs of business 
  • Ability to travel to various locations 
  • Ability to stay overnight in a camp environment (1-2 days per week) 
  • Vehicle and Drivers’ license required 
  • Drug & Alcohol testing required. 

The position may require you to attend at our customers’ sites.  Some customers may have alcohol and drug screening policies for on-site contractors and vendors.  You may be required to submit to such customer screening procedures as and when requested as a condition of being permitted on such sites.
