Position Details:

Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Market Distribution, this position is responsible for leadership of a non-exempt (multi-shift) Warehouse Associate team, customer experience, process development and standardization, and the financial metrics supporting DC budgets against plan/forecast.

The objective of this position is to drive team member engagement and development, create and maintain a safety culture, becoming indispensable to our customers by offering exceptional customer service, being cost effective and achieving LPH and cost per line goals, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to obtain DC OPEX and team member safety and engagement.  

 

Job Responsibilities (You Will): 

Business Leadership

  • Demonstrate, excel and lead team members in their understanding and commitment to the Grainger Principles.
  • Collaborate with cross functional management teams both internal and external to the DC. 
  • Lead DC front line leaders in their understanding, implementation, and execution of performance and operational excellence 
  • Provide leadership to a team of warehouse associates in maximizing and optimizing resources that are flexible and responsive to the variations in all Grainger’s customer demands.  

Operational Excellence

  • Oversee both the inbound (receiving and put away) and outbound (pick and pack) operations, as well as Inventory Control & Logistics of a high volume, order fulfilment, multi-shift Distribution Centre.
  • Oversee operations to ensure accurate product receipt, order fulfillment, and the optimization of resources and processes while operating within budget. Develop processes to ensure compliance and employee programs to promote an environment where employees are involved, empowered, and committed to the success of Grainger.
  • Address customer requirements with cost effective solutions. Proactively deal with customer issues and complaints in a timely manner that drives best practices.  
  • Drive customer metrics goals set by the DC network: % non-conformance, % no finds, End of line audit accuracy, standard work audits, cycle count adjustments measuring inventory management performance.  
  • Manage inventory accuracy by measuring cycle count stock adjustments (TR adjustments) and developing root cause analysis and counter measures to improve accuracy.  
  • Plan and control change through process standardization, including Standard Work Audit performance.  
  • Lead and encourage a continuous improvement methodology within the team member base to achieve high customer service, dashboard leadership and business financial goals.  
  • Drive budget management through productivity goals, process improvements, and metrics against plan/forecast. Assist Sr. Manager, Market DCs, in developing operation and capital budgets. Monitor and control expense according to plan/forecast.  
  • Ensure the Company's physical assets (building, equipment, inventory) are controlled and protected.
  • Ensure a strong safety focus exists at all levels and standardization of safety practices.  
  • Responsible for coordination of building maintenance and upkeep, ensuring MHE and PIE preventative maintenance & repairs are completed on time and within budget (as applicable in a DC without dedicated maintenance team).  

Talent Management

  • Ensure goals related to operational performance, quality and positive employee relations are communicated and achieved through standardization, sharing of best practices, and continuous improvement.
  • Implement staffing strategies so we can fulfill shipping commitments to customers regardless of variations of workflow or business levels.
  • Create a dynamic workplace that effects positive employee relationships by developing employee engagement and recognition programs and ensuring all employees are treated fairly, with respect, and have the tools necessary to perform their jobs.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and development to salaried managers this includes interviewing and training, assign and direct work, performance evaluations, and recognition and disciplinary action.

Education/Experience (You Have): 

  • Preferred College and/or University in Business, Quality, Logistics, Material Management, Integrated Supply; or High School with 5 years progressive distribution experience in a Warehouse, Distribution Center or Supply Chain function, including a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a leadership role.  
  • Proven people leadership, teambuilding and coaching skills to support growth and development.  
  • Skill in creating a dynamic workplace that effects positive team member relationships across functional boundaries.
  • Ability to promote and lead change.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Distribution Centre inbound, outbound, inventory management and storage processes, methods and principles.  
  • Demonstrated analytical, innovative, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to drive results and success in implementing change. Proven ability to lead change while maintaining a highly motivated team.  
  • Capable of performing analysis, making recommendations for improvements, and implement change. Pertinent project management skills and experience. Must have the ability to perform creative problem-solving exercises, root cause analysis and procedure development. Experience managing large & small projects.  
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to multi task.  
  • Demonstrate strong communication both written and verbal, including demonstrated computer skills, including Excel and Office Suites.  

 

Compensation:

This position is salaried and will pay between $70,000 - $90,000. This role is bonus eligible.

Factors involved in determining the salary include, but are not limited to: a candidate’s experience, qualifications, and geographical area.
